Dish opens .phone to trademark holders; open to all from January 19, 2027

Dish DBS Corporation opened the sunrise period for .phone on October 6, 2026. Until January 4, 2027, only trademark holders can register .phone names. Anyone can register from January 19, 2027. Dish’s other new ending, .dot, has been in sunrise since July 21 and opens to everyone on December 2, 2026.

All dates are in UTC. The .dot site says its dates are subject to ICANN approval. During the claims period, someone who registers a name that matches a recorded trademark gets a notice, and the trademark holder is alerted.

How to buy and what it costs

Neither registry has published retail prices. The .phone site says the wholesale price will appear in registrars’ consoles after the sunrise notice. It also says any ICANN-accredited registrar can sell .phone through Tucows Registry Services, and that registrars already signed up for .dot can carry it. The .dot site says names will be sold through accredited registrars and suggests asking your registrar for launch notices.

Who it is for

Sunrise is for trademark holders. The .dot site says holders of marks validated in the Trademark Clearinghouse can register names that exactly match their mark. Early access at .dot is first-come, first-served. General availability at both endings is open to anyone.

What to do

If you hold a trademark you want to protect, the .phone sunrise runs until January 4, 2027. If you want a .dot or .phone name, ask your registrar whether it will carry the ending, and check the renewal price as well as the first-year price before you buy.
