WordPress.com adds premium themes to its Personal plan
WordPress.com said on October 16, 2026 that premium themes, once limited to the Premium plan and above, are now included on every paid plan, starting with Personal.

WordPress.com announced on October 16, 2026 that its premium themes are now included on all paid plans. Until this change, premium themes were only available on the Premium plan and above. The Personal plan now gets them too. The change appeared in WordPress.com’s changelog covering October 2 to 15, 2026.
What changed
| Before | Now | |
|---|---|---|
| Premium themes | Premium plan and above | All paid plans, including Personal |
The same changelog says that if none of the themes fits, you can upload your own theme on any paid plan. Two smaller changes shipped in the same period: the comment form now takes on your theme’s fonts and colors, and the newsletter area under Jetpack → Newsletter has a new Overview tab with a setup checklist and, once running, subscriber counts, open and click rates and recent post results.
The AI side
A day earlier, on October 15, WordPress.com described updates to WordPress Agent, which builds and edits sites from a chat. The agent can now ask about your goals and design a custom theme from your answers. WordPress.com says most sites are ready in under four minutes, less than half the time it used to take. It can also recommend, install and update plugins from the chat. On an existing site, the agent can be turned on on any paid plan. The post gives no usage limits or prices for the agent.
Who benefits
Bloggers and small businesses who chose Personal to keep costs down no longer need to move up to Premium just to use a premium theme. Neither post mentions a change to plan prices.
What to do
If you upgraded to Premium mainly for a theme, compare what else you use on that plan before your next renewal; you may be able to drop back to Personal. Check WordPress.com’s pricing page for the current price of each plan, since the changelog does not list them.
