OpenAI shut down the Sora 2 video API on September 24, 2026

OpenAI removed its Sora 2 video models and the Videos API from its developer platform on September 24, 2026. OpenAI had told developers on March 24, 2026, and its deprecations page lists no replacement model. The consumer Sora app and website had already closed on April 26, 2026.

What was removed

All of these left the API on September 24, 2026:

• the Videos API
• sora-2 and sora-2-pro
• the snapshots sora-2-2025-10-06, sora-2-2025-12-08 and sora-2-pro-2025-10-06

In the “recommended replacement” column, OpenAI’s page shows a dash for every item.

Your Sora content and credits

OpenAI’s Help Center says you can export what you made in Sora at sora.chatgpt.com/sunset, and that you get an email when the export is ready. After Sora is discontinued and any final export window ends, OpenAI says it will permanently delete the data. It recommends exporting as soon as possible.

Purchased ChatGPT/Sora credits can still be used for Codex, the Help Center says. For refunds it points to its general ChatGPT subscription refund article.

Who is affected

Any app, plugin or workflow that called the Videos API or one of the sora-2 model IDs had to move to another provider by September 24. That includes third-party tools that offered Sora 2 inside their own apps, so check which video model a tool uses now if you picked it for Sora.

Other video models with public per-second API prices include Google’s, on its Gemini API pricing page (read on October 18, 2026):

Google lists no free tier for these models, and the prices include audio.

If you still have Sora videos you want to keep, export them now rather than waiting for a final notice.
