Speechify pricing: Premium vs Studio, and what you get
Speechify Premium costs $139 a year or $29 a month for listening. Voiceovers are a separate Studio plan from $100 a year. Costs compared with ElevenLabs and Murf.

Speechify sells two different subscriptions. Speechify Premium, the reading app that turns documents and web pages into audio for you to listen to, costs $139 a year (about $11.58 a month) or $29 a month. Speechify Studio, the voiceover and dubbing tool that makes audio you can publish, is priced separately at $100 a year for Studio Starter or $300 a year for Studio Creator, with commercial rights only on the paid Studio plans. Prices in US dollars, as of October 2026.
We haven’t used Speechify, ElevenLabs or Murf ourselves. Speechify’s prices and rules come from its pricing pages, its own “How much does Speechify cost?” article (updated October 1, 2026) and its terms of service, all read October 29, 2026. They match AskGPU’s Speechify data, checked October 18, 2026. ElevenLabs prices come from its pricing page read today; Murf’s page didn’t load for us, so its figures come from our data (checked October 18, 2026). Cost-per-hour figures are our own arithmetic.
How much does Speechify cost?
| Product and plan | Price | What it’s for |
|---|---|---|
| Speechify Free (reader) | $0 | Listening, with basic voices |
| Speechify Premium (reader) | $139/yr (about $11.58/mo) or $29/mo | Listening, with natural voices and AI tools |
| Studio Free | $0, 600 credits | Trying voiceover and dubbing; no commercial rights |
| Studio Starter | $100/yr (about $8.33/mo) | Voiceovers you publish, 86,400 credits a year |
| Studio Creator | $300/yr ($25/mo) | Heavier voiceover work, 345,600 credits a year |
Speechify’s Studio page lists yearly prices only; there’s no monthly Studio option on it. The reader app’s yearly plan is labeled “SAVE 60%” against monthly billing. That checks out: $29 × 12 = $348 a year on monthly billing, against $139, a saving of $209, or 60%.
Speechify’s own article adds that “the App Store and Google Play set their own final prices,” so a subscription bought inside the iPhone or Android app can cost slightly more or less than the web price.
What do you get on Speechify Free vs Premium?
The reader app’s pricing page puts the gap like this:
| Feature | Free | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Voices | “10 robotic sounding voices” | “1000+ high quality, natural voices” |
| Languages | Not stated | “60+ different languages” |
| Listening speed | Up to 1.5x | Up to 5x on the pricing page (Speechify’s cost article says 4.5x) |
| Scan & Listen (photo to audio) | No | Yes |
| AI Summaries & Chats | No | Yes |
| Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive | No | Yes |
| Voice Typing, AI Podcasts, Voice AI Assistant | No | Listed with Premium |
Two more limits from Speechify’s cost article: the free plan keeps “up to 5 files” in your library on iPhone, and Premium includes up to 1,000,000 Premium voice words a month, “guaranteed through 2026.” The article doesn’t say what happens to that word allowance in 2027.
How long is 1,000,000 words? Speechify doesn’t convert words to hours. As a rough guide, at a reading pace of 150 words a minute (our assumption, not a Speechify figure), 1,000,000 words is about 111 hours of listening at 1x a month. Most people won’t reach it.
Is there a free trial? Speechify’s terms say trials last “three (3) days unless a different period is stated at sign-up,” and that “the Free Trial automatically converts to a paid Subscription Plan at the then-current price” unless you cancel before it ends. The free plan itself needs no card, according to Speechify’s article.
What does Speechify Studio cost per hour of voiceover?
Studio runs on credits. The Studio pricing page sets the rates: voiceover costs 1 credit per second, dubbing 3 credits per second and an AI avatar 30 credits per second. Converting each plan’s credits:
| Studio plan | Credits a year | Voiceover | Dubbing | Avatar video |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 600 (total) | 10 minutes | about 3.3 minutes | 20 seconds |
| Starter, $100/yr | 86,400 | 24 hours | 8 hours | 48 minutes |
| Creator, $300/yr | 345,600 | 96 hours | 32 hours | 3.2 hours |
Per hour of finished voiceover, that’s $100 ÷ 24 = $4.17 on Starter and $300 ÷ 96 = $3.13 on Creator, if you use the whole allowance. Dubbing costs three times as much per hour: $12.50 on Starter and $9.38 on Creator.
Credit rules to know, all from the Studio pricing page:
- “Any new speech generation (new script, even same voice) costs credits.”
- Changes to pitch, speed or emotion cost credits, because they go back through the AI. “Volume-only tweaks” are free.
- “Once generated, exporting of the same content are free.”
- The free Studio plan has no commercial usage rights, and the FAQ says downloading your work as an MP3 needs a paid plan.
The Studio pricing page doesn’t mention voice cloning. Speechify’s rules on cloned voices are covered in our AI voice cloning cost guide.
Speechify vs ElevenLabs vs Murf: which is cheaper for voiceovers?
For publishing voiceovers, compare Studio with the creator plans at ElevenLabs and Murf. Annual billing in each case:
| Plan | Yearly price | Audio included per year | Cost per hour of audio | Commercial use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Speechify Studio Starter | $100 | 24 hours | $4.17 | Yes |
| Speechify Studio Creator | $300 | 96 hours | $3.13 | Yes |
| ElevenLabs Starter | $60 | about 6 hours (about 30 min a month) | about $10 | Yes |
| ElevenLabs Creator | $220 | about 24.2 hours (about 121 min a month) | about $9.09 | Yes |
| ElevenLabs Pro | $990 | about 120 hours (about 600 min a month) | about $8.25 | Yes |
| Murf Creator | $228 | 24 hours | $9.50 | Yes |
| Murf Business | $792 | 96 hours | $8.25 | Yes (business licence) |
How we got there: ElevenLabs’ pricing page converts each plan’s monthly credits to approximate minutes of text to speech (30,000 credits is “~30” minutes on Starter, for example). We multiplied by 12. Murf’s hours are a yearly allowance in our data. ElevenLabs bills monthly allowances that reset; Speechify’s and Murf’s yearly plans give one yearly pot.
On the same 24 hours of audio a year, Speechify Studio Starter costs $100, Murf Creator $228, and ElevenLabs would need Creator at $220 for about 24 hours. Price per hour isn’t the whole story, though:
- ElevenLabs includes Instant Voice Cloning from Starter and Professional Voice Cloning from Creator, per its pricing page, and lists overage prices per extra minute (about $0.20 on Starter, about $0.18 on Creator). Speechify’s Studio page lists neither cloning nor overages.
- Murf’s monthly plans are pricier per hour: Creator is $29 a month for 2 hours a month, which is $14.50 an hour. Murf offers voice cloning only as an Enterprise add-on, according to our data.
- Speechify Studio has no monthly option at all, so you commit for a year up front.

Speechify Premium vs ElevenReader: which listening app costs less?
If you only want to listen, the closer comparison is ElevenLabs’ reading app, ElevenReader, which has its own pricing page:
| Speechify Premium | ElevenReader Ultra | |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly billing | $139 a year | $8.25 a month ($99 a year) |
| Monthly billing | $29 a month | $11 a month |
| Free plan | 10 robotic voices, up to 1.5x | 10 hours of text to audio a month, 1,000+ voices, up to 4.0x |
| Paid listening limit | Up to 1,000,000 Premium voice words a month | “Unlimited” for your imports, with a reasonable-use cap of 24 hours of generated audio a day |
| Trial | 3 days by default (terms) | 3-day free trial |
Worked example for one student or professional over two years:
- Speechify Premium, yearly: 2 × $139 = $278
- Speechify Premium, monthly: 24 × $29 = $696
- ElevenReader Ultra, yearly: 2 × $99 = $198
- ElevenReader Ultra, monthly: 24 × $11 = $264
ElevenReader’s free plan is also more generous on paper: 10 hours a month with natural voices, against Speechify Free’s robotic voices. What Speechify Premium lists that ElevenReader’s page doesn’t is Scan & Listen, AI summaries and chat, and cloud-drive integrations. Neither reading app’s pricing page lists commercial rights to the audio; for voiceovers you publish, look at Studio or ElevenLabs’ creator plans instead.
Is there a cheaper way to get Speechify?
This is one of the most common questions about Speechify’s price. Based on Speechify’s own pages, the documented ways to pay less are:
- Pay yearly. Premium at $139 a year instead of $29 a month saves $209 over 12 months. If you only need it for a few months, monthly can still be cheaper: three months at $29 is $87, less than the $139 yearly charge. The break-even is about five months ($29 × 5 = $145).
- Buy on the web, not in an app store, and compare. Speechify says Apple and Google set their own final prices, so the in-app price may differ.
- Use the free plan for light listening. Speechify’s pages don’t put a time limit on it; the limits are fewer voices and a 1.5x speed cap.
- Students: Speechify’s cost article says students “can use the free plan at no cost” and points to a separate student discount article. We didn’t find a student price on the pricing page itself, so check at sign-up.
- For voiceovers, don’t buy Premium. Premium is a listening app. If what you need is audio you can publish, Studio Starter at $100 a year is both cheaper and the plan that includes commercial rights.
Speechify’s pricing page lists no family plan and no team price for the reader app; it links to separate pages for enterprise and education buyers without public prices.
Is Speechify worth the money?
That depends on which product you need, and Speechify’s pages make the trade-offs fairly clear:
- For listening, Premium’s case rests on its extra features (Scan & Listen, AI summaries and chat, cloud-drive imports) and its 1,000+ voices. If you just want natural voices for your own documents, ElevenReader’s free plan gives 10 hours a month and its paid plan is $40 a year cheaper.
- For voiceovers, Studio is the lowest cost per hour in this comparison, at $3.13 to $4.17 an hour if you use the full allowance. The downsides are the yearly-only billing, no listed voice cloning on the Studio page, and credits spent on every regeneration.
- For occasional use, neither yearly plan pays off. A few voiceovers a year might fit in ElevenLabs Starter, which is $6 a month on monthly billing for about 30 minutes of speech a month.
What to watch for
- Two products, two bills. Premium (listening) and Studio (voiceovers) are separate subscriptions. Premium doesn’t include Studio credits, and Studio doesn’t include the reader app’s features.
- Trials convert automatically. Speechify’s terms say the 3-day trial turns into a paid plan “at the then-current price” unless you cancel first.
- Auto-renewal at the then-current rate. Plans “will automatically renew,” and renewals use “the then-current rate in effect at the time of such renewal.” Speechify says it sends annual subscribers a reminder email 15 to 45 days before renewal.
- Refunds are limited. The terms say you “will not be eligible for a pro-rated refund,” and that fees for the current term “will not be refunded, in whole or in part, subject to applicable law.” If you cancel, you keep access until the term ends.
- App store purchases. If you subscribe through Apple or Google, the terms say “the sale is final” from Speechify’s side, and cancellations and refunds are handled by Apple or Google. Cancel in your Apple Account or Google Play subscriptions.
- Studio regenerations use credits. Every new take, even with the same voice and script, costs credits. Budget more than the finished runtime.
- The 1,000,000-word guarantee runs “through 2026.” Speechify hasn’t said what applies after that.
Which should you choose?
- Students and readers who listen a few hours a week: start with a free plan. If you need natural voices, compare Speechify Premium at $139 a year with ElevenReader Ultra at $99 a year; pick Speechify if you want Scan & Listen and AI summaries.
- Anyone paying monthly for Premium: switch to yearly if you’ll use it all year. $139 against $348 is the biggest saving on this page.
- YouTubers, course creators and podcasters publishing voiceovers: Speechify Studio Starter ($100 a year, 24 hours) is the cheapest per hour here. Choose ElevenLabs instead if you need voice cloning or monthly billing; see our ElevenLabs page.
- Businesses that want a named business licence: Murf Business ($792 a year, 96 hours) lists one; see our Murf AI page. Speechify Studio Creator gives the same 96 hours for $300 with commercial rights.
- Dubbing into other languages: Studio Creator’s 32 hours of dubbing a year works out to about $9.38 an hour.
