What it's good at
From OpenAI's own announcements and docs, linked.
- OpenAI's most capable model, for the most demanding reasoning, coding, computer use, research and document work. source
- OpenAI reports a state-of-the-art 72.6% on OSWorld 2.0 for computer use, in about 47% less time per task than GPT-5.6 Sol. source
- OpenAI calls it its best software-engineering model so far, and strong at filling in existing document, spreadsheet and slide templates. source
Watch out for
Limits and costs worth knowing before you build on it.
- Prompts over 272K tokens are billed at 2× the input price and 1.5× the output price on the whole request.
- Input tops out at 922K of the 1.05M-token window, and replies at 128K tokens.
- Refuses advanced cybersecurity tasks such as proof-of-concept exploits; extra safety checks can stop some API tasks.
- No custom temperature, logprobs or fine-tuning, and tool calling needs the Responses API.
Scores
Benchmark numbers are as published by OpenAI; we haven't rerun them. Makers use different setups, so don't compare one maker's numbers with another's. The leaderboard rank comes from public blind votes.
